The cost of ElevenLabs for a YouTube channel depends less on the number of videos you publish and more on how many minutes of narration you generate, including rejected takes and revisions.

A channel publishing four short videos may fit Starter. A channel publishing four long narrated videos may already need Creator.

Quick Answer

ElevenLabs Starter currently costs $6 per month and includes 30,000 credits. Creator costs $22 per month at the regular price and includes 121,000 credits. Creator currently advertises an $11 first month, but ongoing budgeting should use the regular $22 price.

For a monetized YouTube channel, the Free plan is not a substitute for a paid plan because it does not include a commercial license.

As a practical starting point:

  • Four videos with about five minutes of narration each may fit Starter.
  • Eight or twelve videos with five minutes of narration each will usually require Creator.
  • Longer narration, frequent retakes, dubbing, music, or other ElevenLabs products can increase usage.

These are planning estimates, not guaranteed production limits.

Current ElevenLabs Pricing

Plan Monthly price Included credits Approximate TTS time shown by ElevenLabs
Free $0 10,000 About 10 minutes
Starter $6 30,000 About 30 minutes
Creator $22 121,000 About 121 minutes

Creator currently advertises $11 for the first month. Prices exclude applicable taxes and may change, so confirm the final amount before subscribing.

Starter and Creator include a commercial license. Content generated on the Free plan cannot be used commercially under ElevenLabs’ current publishing rules.

Estimated Cost for 4, 8 or 12 YouTube Videos

The first example assumes:

  • Five minutes of finished narration per video
  • Approximately 1,000 Text to Speech credits per generated minute
  • A 25% allowance for pronunciation fixes, rewritten lines, and retakes
  • No credits used for music, dubbing, transcription, or sound effects
Videos per month Finished narration Estimated generated narration Estimated credits Likely starting plan
4 20 minutes 25 minutes About 25,000 Starter
8 40 minutes 50 minutes About 50,000 Creator
12 60 minutes 75 minutes About 75,000 Creator

If each video contains about eight minutes of narration, the estimate changes:

Videos per month Finished narration Estimated generated narration Estimated credits Likely starting plan
4 32 minutes 40 minutes About 40,000 Creator
8 64 minutes 80 minutes About 80,000 Creator
12 96 minutes 120 minutes About 120,000 Creator, close to its included limit

Count the actual narration, not the full video length. A ten-minute tutorial containing five minutes of voice-over belongs in the five-minute example.

When Is Starter Enough?

Starter is the sensible first paid plan when:

  • Your estimated monthly generation remains below 30,000 credits
  • You need commercial usage rights
  • You are testing whether AI narration fits your channel
  • You do not need Professional Voice Cloning
  • Running out of credits would not interrupt an established schedule

Four videos with five minutes of narration each may fit, but the remaining allowance is small. Full-script regenerations can quickly use the buffer.

When Should You Upgrade to Creator?

Creator becomes more reasonable when:

  • Your measured monthly usage exceeds Starter
  • You publish narrated videos every week
  • Retakes regularly push your usage above the finished narration time
  • You need more capacity for other ElevenLabs products
  • You need a verified Professional Voice Clone of your own voice

Creator includes just over four times the credits of Starter, but costs about 3.7 times as much at the regular monthly price. That does not mean every small channel should upgrade. Unused credits do not improve a video or generate views.

Upgrade because measured workload requires it, not because the introductory price looks inexpensive.

Credits, Characters and Minutes Are Not Identical

For common Text to Speech usage, ElevenLabs generally charges according to text characters. The exact credit rate can depend on the model, product, and method used.

The minute figures on the pricing page are estimates. Speaking speed, language, punctuation, model selection, and script structure affect the final audio length.

Credits are also shared across ElevenLabs products. Credits spent on music, dubbing, transcription, sound effects, or another feature leave fewer credits for narration.

Regenerations matter as well. If you generate an entire script again to correct a few lines, the second generation may consume credits again.

Our ElevenLabs Credits Explained guide covers shared usage, regenerations, rollover, and billing-cycle resets in more detail.

Estimate Your Own Monthly Cost

Use this process before choosing a plan:

  1. Take one representative script.
  2. Generate the narration using the voice and model you expect to keep.
  3. Record the finished narration length.
  4. Record the total credits used, including corrections.
  5. Multiply that result by the number of monthly videos you realistically plan to publish.
  6. Add any expected usage for other ElevenLabs products.

One measured video is more useful than guessing from the advertised credit number alone.

Who Does Not Need to Pay Yet?

You may want to wait if:

  • You are only comparing voices privately
  • You have not finished a script
  • You have not published your first few videos
  • You do not know whether narration is a real production bottleneck
  • Recording your own voice already works well
  • You expect an AI voice subscription to create views automatically

The Free plan can help with noncommercial testing, but audio generated outside a paid subscription does not receive the paid commercial license retroactively.

Practical Recommendation

Choose Starter when you need commercial rights and your measured workload fits comfortably below 30,000 monthly credits.

Choose Creator when your real production usage exceeds Starter, you publish regularly, or you need Professional Voice Cloning.

If you are uncertain, begin with one complete video and measure the credits consumed before committing to a larger recurring plan.

Always confirm current prices, credit limits, taxes, commercial-use conditions, and promotional terms before purchasing.
